Welcome to the new Home of The Star Gazers, an EQ guild on the Karana server.

Charter

“That’s it. Yes. Rejoice. Rejoice with great gladness. Remember this night when you are one, under the stars. Remember this night so that in the years to come you can say, ‘I was there, on that night, with Arthur, the King.’ Remember it well. For it is the doom of men…that they forget.”

First a little history

Where to begin? Before I put up the actual charter I want give you some history of The Star Gazers. This guild was founded back sometime in late 1999. I’m not sure of the actual date. The guild was founded by a small group some of who were RL friends. Originally it was a half elf only guild. The makeup was largely paladins and rangers. Sometime before my ranger Aulerian joined the guild in early February of 2000 this was changed to being Light race only. Sometime later this was changed to any race. This is where we are today. We are a guild of diverse race and class and there is no restriction on a member’s class or race. When I first joined the guild there was a level 15 requirement except for alts. This was later raised to 20 and then to 30. The main reason for having a level 15 requirement was to insure that recruits knew how to play the game. The later increases were added to help a growing feeling of the guild separating into upper and lower members. The problem was that lower members in the guild felt ignored while higher ups were gearing up for and going on Dragon and Plane raids. The Higher ups felt that they were being begged to death. The core original members who by this time were all in their mid 30 to over 50 felt it was best to restrict the guild to new members only above 30. The Guild had grown large and this move it was felt would slow the growth and keep everyone close in level and therefore a more closely knit group. It is hard to say what all went wrong but I think the combination of rapid growth combined with a few bad personalities stirring up trouble caused the guild in a very short time to go from a membership of 60 or so to well over 200 back down to 50 or so in rapid succession. When the second server split form Karana occurred, many of the upper members of the guild including Lelein, the founding leader, and Selwen, the then leader of TSG, decided to leave and head to Ayonae Ro. There was much debate as to what should become of this guild. Many wanted to merge with the guild Infinity. Many wanted to disband the guild. A few anted to try and make things work. I was in the third group and with Lelein and Selwen's blessing, Falcone Robinsbane became the leader of TSG. Many members continued to leave and times as a guild were tough. I was going through some transitions in RL that put a strain on my time. Things couldn’t have looked worse.

My RL bro playing Qanadar had gone through a similar experience with the guild Mystical Steele. At one point they were one of the largest and powerful guilds on Karana. Then the leader and many of the higher members formed a new guild to go on raids while trying to maintain the old guild. They had over 350 members at one point. The guild doesn’t even exist anymore. That shows how far TSG has come and how well we have persevered. When things seemed lowest, the tides changed. I was able to get some of my RL friends who started playing to join the guild. We recruited some new members and with help form the old crew like Dribble and Oneyewilly, we were able to get things rolling again. Then my hard drive died. I missed almost 2 months of playing time. But in spite of my absence, TSG continued to grow. Today we have over 30 active members and the number is probably closer to 50. We are going on Dragon raids again and soon will be in the planes, maybe not in great numbers, but we are there. This guild has outlasted a great number of other guilds and I hope it will last some time to come. I wish I still had some of the screenshots from my old hard drive. Lelein killing Lucan for the Holy avenger surrounded by at least 100 members of TSG, Sisterhood, Wyrmlore council, and House Kendan, all members of an alliance known as The Circle of Karana. It could have really gone places but personal issues destroyed the alliance.

This is why a charter is a must. With out rules and stated expectation of conduct everything falls apart. Therefore without further ado, and cause I feel like I’m rambling now, I present the charter of the Star Gazers.

  1. The Star Gazers accept members of any race, class, and level. Although this has been different at times in the past, I think this is the best policy.
  2. All members are expected to adhere to the principles of the play nice policy. This means no harassing people, sharing of spawns when it becomes necessary and above all no kill stealing. Although I don’t agree with every aspect of Play nice I agree with the general principles. Transgressions of this rule will be looked at with the understanding that there can be a lot of misunderstandings especially with issues of KS and training
  3. All members will treat other citizens of Norrath with respect. Excessive foul language and rudeness will not be tolerated.
  4. Members will not use the /anon tag. It hides your guild name and makes it impossible to tell when you are on line. If anonymity is desired use the /role tag instead. It hides your class, level, and race while still being visible to guild mates.
  5. All members will respect each other’s style of play. No one will ever be required to Power level nor will members who chose to do so be punished in anyway. As long as members are respectful and friendly to one another, there is room for all playing styles.
  6. Guild members will assist others in the guild when they can.
  7. Begging of guild members is harassment. If a member can help you they will. Begging will get you kicked out of the guild.
  8. Guild members are encouraged but not required to pass on their used equipment to lower level members. If you have something you want to sell please offer it on the message boards to guild members first when ever possible. At the same time the Guild recognizes the need for players to make money. Don’t expect handouts from other members. But you will often receive them if you represent the guild well. Don’t forget rule #7 (no begging)
  9. Members will refrain from using vulgar and offensive language in the guild chat channel. Take it to tell. Also Spamming of the Guild channel will not be tolerated
  10. At times guild chat may be needed as the primary communication channel while conducting a raid or event. In those instances please refrain from using guild chat when other channels will work.

Well I think that covers it. If I think of anything else ill add it. Feel free to comment on the message board.

(The quote is from Excalibur. It is the speech that Merlin delivers to Arthur and his knights when they are celebrating the victory of the uniting wars of England. The speech takes place on the hill where Camelot gets built. If you haven’t seen this movie I highly recommend you do.)
